Motorbikes by the score

There are so many of Ernesto’s motorbikes that we no longer know where to put them! Every single one of them has a story behind it, how it was found, how it got here to Corvara – if ever there was a never-ending story this is the one!
Motorbikes by the score
Perhaps one could begin by talking of the German NSU of 1946, or perhaps the Guzzi Airone Superalce, or what about the Harley Davidson, and the list goes on for there is also the Galletto, the Capriolo, the BSA, the Moschito, not to forget the Lambretta. The garage for motorbikes has become a real museum of a place where it is easy to remain open-mouthed, then amazed and then completely bowled over by the selection before you. Ernesto Costa himself remains ever the enthusiast. Born in 1940 and still as enthusiastic as 40 or more years ago he never ceases to rejoice in the telling of one model or another and their distinctive attributes – after all each aquisition was a little piece of his life. In all there are 125 motorbikes, all in prime condition and working order, and he knows them all intimately. His quick and infectious manner, his sparkling eyes are all testimony to his love of the collection. When I get close up to to the red Java, a Czech machine which would still get one around the world comfortably, the singers Cochi and Renato and their song on the motorbike come to mind, ‘Oh look at what an offer, it’s a motorbike fit for champions’. The thought always makes me smile and I imagine Ernesto stood between those two characters, perfectly at home singing and dancing and telling tales of daring exploits on motorbikes – all true of course!
