Chris Costa, a Ladin artist

The Ladin artist has showcased many of his projects both in Italy and abroad but he has never forgotten where he comes from. He always remembers to share his passion for music in his home country.
Chris Costa, a Ladin artist

'Music is the source of all life.' – Chris Costa
Christian Pescosta, a Ladin artist going by the name of Chris Costa, is a lively and joyful man with many faces to his persona. He is a versatile artist: a singer, a multi-instrumentalist composer, arranger and producer. His activities result in different experiments and experiences: he feeds his passion every year into manifold projects. Chris is not only a soloist, he is also part of different bands, such as 'Mood Filter' and 'Capsicum Tree',
Chris was brought up in Corvara, then moved to Bolzano, Bologna, Livorno, Verona, Germany and Holland. Nowadays, he is known to move between Milan, Venice and London, but you cannot really say there is one place he calls home. Chris himself admits it, saying he is somewhat of a 'gypsy'.
His music doesn't express itself in one style alone, rather encompasses different ones. Listening to his tracks, we can sometimes detect some funk or dub, in others pop, r&b, jungle, rock,  jazz or rap; moreover, his performances are well known for the different special effects used on stage or his habit of bursting out in an improvised melody.
2007 sees Chris performing the world première of the Ode to Joy by Beethoven/Schiller in the Main Hall of the Free University of Bolzano... in three languages: Italian, German and Ladin. His career in music, however, started before that: in 1998 he releases his first album, 'Chris & Friends', followed by 'ChrisALide Jazz Duo' in 2003, 'Dirty Soul' in 2004, his single tracks 'One of the thousand' in 2006 for Lifegatemusic in the 'Galleria Illy' compilation, Capsicum Tree with 'Eternal Life' in 2006 for Carosello/Warner, 'Caress', his first solo album, in 2008, Capsicum Tree 'The Bug' in 2011 and Mood Filter 'Quiet Revolution' in 2013.
The artist has also appeared in Paolo De Gregorio's documentary, 'The ways of the Cajòn', in a fun cameo speaking Ladin in Lorenzo Cherubini-Jovanotti's DVD 'Safari' and in Malika Ayane's videos, 'Thoughts & Clouds' and 'Il giorno in più'.
In 2010-2011, he decided to go with Malika Ayane on her 'Grovigli' tour and in 2012-2013 with Cesare Cremonini on his 'La teoria dei colori' tour. Chris also produced and collaborated in studio with Malika Ayane on her 'Ricreazione' album in 2012, with the Ganes band in 2010, with Lorenzo Cherubini Jovanotti on 'Buon Sangue' in 2005, with Lubjan on 'Oneoneuno' in 2006 and with 'Sense of Akasha' on 'People do not know who rules'
Chris Costa still feels a strong bond to his Ladin valley and he organizes different projects which have a strong link to his home country, such as 'Valbadiajazz Festival' every August in the villages of Val Badia. The festival aims to surprise guests every year with locations set against the backdrop of breathtaking landscapes and top-quality music which lure many music fans.
The artist is currently collaborating with Maja Petrovna, Cedrina Baugh (Boney M) and Ed Laurie & Straw Dog in London. Chris is also working on a solo project, working on his new 'Mood Filter' album and collaborating on different productions with different artists.
The Ladin artist is totally submerged in London: a city bursting with surprises and chance encounters around every corner, a city which surprises him with every new project he undertakes.
Chris Costa unburdens his soul...'Music is the source of all life: even just trying something will lead you to beautiful finds from both past and present, constantly evolving.'
Corrado Augias' 'I segreti di Londra' (The Secrets of London) is the last book Chris has read and Sorrentino's 'The Great Beauty' the last film he saw (according to Chris, the film depicts 'a bitter portrait of Italy which, unfortunately, we know only too well, interspersed with some beautiful shots').
There are many artists in the musical scene he likes, from beatboxers such as Reeps One or Beardyman to Radiohead, Aloosh and Lianne La Havas and many others.
Song writing means starting from scratch every time, says the artist: he is simply trying to express what he feels in a spontaneous manner.
Music is what drives the artist. His dream is of one day being able to play original music all around the world.
