Blood is life

On the 8th July the Costa Family Foundation will hold a charity aperitiv at Hotel Albergo Posta Marcucci in Bagno Vignoni. It will be an important moment to present the Foundation and its initiatives, and in particualr the project ‘Sangue è vita’ (’Blood is life’) to house guests and friends living in the area. One specific objective is to give concrete support so as to save the lives of children in Tongo who are suffering from malaria.
Blood is life

Clean blood, the most effective remedy against malaria emergency in Togo
The project Sangue è vita (‘Blood is life’) came about to support the work of Sister Patrizia and Maristella, longstanding friends of the Foundation. They are two special women and live in Makpape, a small area in Togo where there are 16 villages homing 13 thousand people. And among the thousand activities our two friends carry out there, there is also the daily task of battling against malaria, the world’s most widespread parasite disease. The nearest hospital is at Notse, about 30 km from Amakpape, and it is here that the children suffering from different degrees of anemia arrive, it resulting from malaria not being well dealt with and in the end it can cause death. The mortality rate for malaria is highest in children between the ages of 6 months and 3 years of age. Togo is one of the epedemic areas so suffers greatly. Clean blood is essential in any treatment of children in affected areas and when on learns the fact that 90% of the population Togo has malaria at one stage or other the fact becomes even more apparent. The project objective is to increase the number of blood bags, these complete with a little kit containing all necessary for the transfusion: just 45 euro can save a life. And it is the sum of 45 Euro which we ask of you to take part at the charity- event. The aperitiv will be held at Hotel Posta Marcucci on Saturday 8th July. It is an amount which truly can save the life of a child. The Foundation regularly publishes on its site and in its ‘gazzetta’ publications a breakdown of fiances of every initiative it is involved in, this not only for a question of transparency towards donors but also to show how a project can develop and end results be achieved. In this sense, the vile attacks of recent periods on the Non Governmental Organisations which operate in Italy and many parts of thr world at great risk are wholly inappropriate and painful. To throw accusations at those who undertake save human life is embarrassing indeed. During the presentation evening, it starting at 6 pm, there will be a presentation of the Foundation and the diverse activities it is involved in and a detailed report of the ‘Sangue è vita’ project. The occasion also represents the chance to get to know each other, enjoy an aperitif and a pizza which will be served in the garden area. In honour of the occasion the pizzas will come fresh from the ovens which will be lined up a the side of the pool. There will also be the opportunity to donate to the cause. At present, and thanks to the never ending work of the two missionaries, we are able to provide about 60 blood sacks a month, 600 in the year that is. To make a real impact and prevent evermore children of a young age dying on a daily basis we must all do more. Our aim, and with your help, is to do far more in providing clean bolod bags to the population there in Tongo. A liitle money can go a long long way. We look forward to seeing you at the event on the 8th July.
