Winter
1917 – The Hapsburg Empire: Not even the legendary Dolomite beauty could silence the canons. Man himself had wanted this atrocity, Man had caused it, Man had brought the Great War – the most horrendous of results ensued – homes, lives, and hopes all blown away and only hunger and famine brought in their place.
Moving on, and over time, the curiosity of explorers and Alpine climbers brought the attention of the wider world to the Dolomites. The first lifts carried those early intrepid skiers, the first homes became hotels of a sort. I want to follow the tracks of the hare and other creatures I even find hard to name. I want to lose myself in my thoughts away from the beaten track. I can sit astride across a fallen larch that the wind has caused to fall. I can set off on treks with snow rackets on my feet. I can ski down a route or two of my choice. I want to discover all.
The sleeping beauty of winter entices me ever closer and awakens in me an ever growing urge to discover The Truth. The reality is that we need to be reborn. There is a need of The Truth and there is a need to be reborn for as Socrates noted ignorance is an evil and knowledge is a blessing.
