Beauty needs to be appreciated and protected for only beauty can save the world.
“In times of violence, of a desperate state of consumerism, of a widespread shortsightedness, beauty is the only hope of salvation in this contemporary world of ours.”
The Dolomites are a unique microcosm. Certain philosophers claim that uniqueness is the root of beauty.  Therefore the Dolomites are a beauty. In their own way they have transformed a small fragment of the world into something immense. It is no coincidence that they have become a World Heritage.
The Dolomites without any dispute oblige one to take note of an undeniable truth: beauty exists. Beauty has a wider connotation because there is beauty in all things – all you need to do is recognise it. However beauty is not as we often interpret it in the sense of our own image or likeness, as sometimes we presume.
Our presumption, our greed, our like of power illudes us into thinking that we can somehow take possession of beauty. And from this illusion another comes about: being the boss of beauty leads us into believing that we can be our own bosses in all senses.
Illusion and presumption go hand in hand into convincing us that we are ourselves our beauty just as and expression of  beauty are these massif mountains composed of ridges, rock faces, outcrops, amazing peak profiles. Our ignorance goes further for we confuse ourselves with the clouds which circle the peaks, the sun which sets the mountains alight, the snow which blankets the massif.
In truth as with every form of beauty dominance and ownership are not required. Rather we need human beings who are able to share beauty.  To be people able to preserve an identity developed over the centuries and shaped by traditions and a sense of harmony which has something of a fairytale nature about it. This is what our Ladin spirit is all about. It is about sharing and about respect, the bowing to the mountain presence, the redimensioning of any trace of ego.
Gentle and strict at the same time, powerful and elegant too, majestic and beautiful also: rare nowadays are the places which make us think of the sublime. The Dolomites are one such place. To protect them is much more than a simple duty – today it has become an absolute necessity.
